At Xian Yun Academy, we take great pride in making sure our students become well-rounded individuals with a wide range of interests. We follow the ‘Whole Person’ model of education, which focuses on developing not only mental and professional skills, but physical, emotional, and interpersonal skills as well. We offer many extracurricular activities in pursuit of this goal, and strongly encourage students to be a part of one or more clubs.
A Day in the Life
Students participating in the breakfast program will be served a delicious spread of food from 7:45 – 8:10. Their options include eggs, rice porridge (congee), steamed rolls, bread, waffles, milk, cereal and salted vegetables.
Our middle and high school students start their day at 8:10 with their first academic class of the day. Most students have two to three classes in the morning, depending on the day’s schedule.
At 11:15, lunch is served! Students serve themselves from a healthy home-cooked Asian and American buffet including soup, rice, fresh vegetables, meats, milk and fruit. Fridays are World Cuisine days, and the offerings include homemade pizza, hamburgers, and tacos.
The final academic course lasts from 12:00-12:45, followed by a quick ten minute break. From 12:55 – 3:25 pm, students will attend classes in their art major (Visual Arts, Chinese Dance, Ballet, or Music).
After classes are over, many students choose to stay for study hall, student clubs (see Student Clubs) and/or extra time in the dance or art studios. Study hall is in the library and lasts from 4:00 – 6:00 pm.
Xian Yun Academy students are involved in a variety of on- and off-campus events each year. Recurring events include the Academic Competition, the Chinese Language & Culture Competition, Dance Recitals (winter and spring), the Mid-Autumn Festival celebration, the Chinese New Year celebration, and the Spring Carnival, as well as various local events such as the Italian Heritage Parade.

Xian Yun’s small student population allows students to form personal and lasting relationships with fellow classmates, teachers, and advisors. Our staff members actively look out for each student and help them by catering to different learning styles, interests, and aspirations. Students know they are always welcome to seek advice from a staff member about academic, artistic, or career pursuits, talk about their personal problems, or just drop by for a casual chat about their day.
Students at our school make friends spanning a wide range of ages, backgrounds, and interests. In Xian Yun Academy’s healthy, safe, and tightly-knit environment, students learn to understand and appreciate each others’ differences, and to be there for each other like family.
Students have the opportunity to explore extracurricular activities, develop a project, or take on leadership roles by joining or establishing a student club.
Our club offerings vary from year to year and may include the following:
- Mathematical Games and Logical Thinking
- Art and Clay Club
- Debate Club
- Fashion and Design
