Our Mission & Vision

Mission
“Our mission is to provide young people with a curriculum that features training in traditional arts and that facilitates the understanding of different cultures, offering dance education to persons who are both accomplished and talented.”

Vision
Xian Yun Academy of the Arts California endeavors to educate the whole child by placing emphasis on character development (responsibility, respect, honesty, kindness, empathy, and tolerance), the study of culture, academic knowledge, professional skills, and independent thought.  Through our traditional arts and academic programs, we foster students’ aesthetic sensibility, moral attentiveness, and intellectual curiosity essential for success in college and as future leaders in the arts, business, and society.

Whole Child Education Model

The Xian Yun Academy of the Arts California distinguishes its whole-child learning from other holistic models by featuring arts training at the core of our students’ moral and intellectual development.  We innovate by avoiding quick recipes of innovation.  We promote what has endured longest and best in traditional education: the formation of an ethically mature self, immersion in works of abiding merit, and appreciation of the spirit of the arts as creatively embodied in line, color, and movement.

In a structured environment, our students explore their passion by actively participating in dance, music, and the visual arts.

This striving for excellence motivates students to develop the focus and perseverance necessary for both academic and artistic achievement.  We believe that the harmonious integration of artistic training, academic study and character development shape individuals able to make vital contributions to the world of the future.

Core Values: respect, responsibility, honesty, kindness, empathy, and tolerance.

Our History

Xian Yun Academy of the Arts California was founded in 2010 by a group of Bay Area parents with a passion for the traditional arts and an abiding commitment to holistic education.

Xian Yun acquired WASC candidacy status in the year of its opening, earning full accreditation four years later.  The 2014 WASC visiting committee lauded the School’s education model as “extraordinary . . . the San Francisco Bay Area has a treasure in the work that is [Xian Yun Academy].”

In 2015 Xian Yun Academy acquired its current campus at 1950 Page Street, next to Golden Gate Park.  An ambitious project to expand this campus is currently underway.

Our Location

Xian Yun Academy is situated in the heart of San Francisco, steps away from San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park, one of the largest city parks in the United States, providing ample opportunities for students to incorporate outdoor exploration and discovery into their academic studies. Xian Yun students utilize Golden Gate Park’s facilities to investigate biodiversity, ecological food webs, buoyancy, magnetism and orienteering, bridge building, wave motion, and many other fields of hands-on scientific discovery. The California Academy of Sciences and the De Young Museum, located within Golden Gate Park, are also readily accessible to Xian Yun classes.

Xian Yun also takes advantage of its location in the heart of the San Francisco Bay Area to engage in educational field trips to a vast array of locations, from analysis of visual art and history at the Asian Art Museum to astronomical observations and applied survival skills during faculty-led camping trips in the redwood forests of Northern California.

Xian Yun Academy’s prime location places it on the doorsteps of culture, innovation, and learning for a student body of varied and diverse interests.
