Xian Yun Academy of the Arts California (Xian Yun CA) provides two distinct tracks for eligible students: 1) an Arts-Intensive + Academics track and 2) a rigorous college-preparatory academic track. Both programs provide students with advanced arts training. The college-prep track is only available to high school students in grades 9-12. Xian Yun CA is fully accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC).
Arts-Intensive + Academics Track (grades 6-12)
Students accepted to the Arts-Intensive track select a major, whether dance or visual arts. Our school day is a full day from 8am to 5pm. Students train in their selected art form daily for 3-4 hours, immersing themselves in various techniques, forms and aesthetic theory. Rigorous academic and elective classes make up the rest of the day, wherein students may fulfill and surpass California state and University of California standard requirements. All Xian Yun CA students are additionally supported with a wide selection of AP courses, SAT/ACT preparation, and extra-curricular interest clubs.
Students in grades 9 – 12 may select the academic-focused college preparatory track. Students admitted to this program must still engage in a minimum of 2 hours per day of arts training. The focus, however, is Xian Yun CA’s excellent offerings in academics, including a full slate of AP courses, high achieving Mandarin Chinese Language Arts, and SAT/ACT preparation.
Electives, Extra-Curricular Activities, and Community Engagement
All students at Xian Yun CA may diversify their overall experience with electives such as additional AP courses and extra-curricular clubs that include student council, drama, leadership, performance, yearbook, and debate.
Throughout the year, students and faculty embark on field trips to local parks and historic and cultural destinations. In addition, Xian Yun CA promotes cultural awareness and appreciation of the arts in the community through performances and exhibits, so that students have many opportunities to showcase their talents and give back to the community throughout the year.
Small Class Sizes
Class sizes at Xian Yun CA are small by design. The student-faculty ratio is 15:1. We believe that small class sizes promote attention, excellence, and above all else, nurturing the whole student. No student is overlooked at our school. Our faculty and administration pledge to work in full partnership with parents to support every student to achieve their best and work toward their dreams.
